AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has strongly condemned the latest US allegations against the Islamic Republic, dismissing them as “unfounded” and politically motivated.
Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, addressed the issue in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent” ceasefire in Gaza. The US was the only nation to oppose the resolution, while 14 other members, including the United Kingdom, voted in favor.
Iravani stated that Washington’s accusations against Iran during the Security Council meeting were “entirely unfounded, devoid of credibility, and lacking any legal foundation.”
He emphasized that the US’s anti-Iran rhetoric was intended to shield Israel from accountability for its ongoing violations of international law in Gaza.
“At a time when the Security Council must act with unity and urgency to end the unparalleled suffering of the Palestinian people, enduring relentless bombardment, forced displacement, famine, and the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure, it is regrettable and shameful that the United States has once again obstructed the Council’s mandate and diverted attention through politically motivated accusations,” Iravani wrote.
“This calculated deflection serves a single, cynical purpose: to shield the occupying and illegitimate Israeli regime from accountability for its egregious violations of international law,” he added.
Iravani further condemned the US veto, describing it as a “blatant dereliction and abuse” of the Security Council’s responsibilities under the UN Charter.
“This is not an isolated incident, but rather a continuation of a deeply troubling pattern witnessed throughout the past 19 months of Israel’s genocidal war against Gaza,” he noted.
“By once again shielding Israel from accountability, the United States has actively enabled the continuation of a catastrophic military campaign that has already killed tens of thousands of civilians, most of them women and children, and pushed Gaza to the brink of collapse,” he continued.
Iravani reaffirmed Iran’s principled stance in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate resistance against occupation, stating that it is fully grounded in the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.
He criticized Washington’s attempts to blame others for the consequences of Israel’s unlawful and brutal campaign, calling it a deliberate distortion aimed at absolving Israel of its crimes.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled position and support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle against occupation are fully grounded in the UN Charter, international law, and numerous Security Council resolutions,” Iravani emphasized.
